Biography
Helen Craig was an American actress born on 13 May 1912 in San Antonio, Texas. She died on 20 July 1986 in New York City.
She was primarily a stage performer and created the title role of the deaf-mute Belinda in the original 1940 Broadway production of Johnny Belinda. Her other Broadway credits included Russet Mantle (1936), As You Like It (1941) and The House of Bernarda Alba (1951). She was a graduate of Orson Welles’ Mercury Theatre.
Craig appeared in films including The Snake Pit (1948) as Nurse Davis and They Live by Night (1949) as Mattie. On television she had roles in series such as Kojak. She was married to actor John Beal from 1934 until her death.
