Biography
Helga Cranston, also known as Helga Keller, was a film editor born Helga May on 6 May 1921 in Darmstadt, Germany. She emigrated to England in 1939 as a Jewish refugee and began working as an editor in the mid-1940s. She was mentored by Reginald Beck.
Cranston edited Laurence Olivier’s Hamlet (1948) and Richard III (1955). She also worked with Otto Preminger on Saint Joan (1957) and Bonjour Tristesse (1958), and edited several other British films including Madness of the Heart (1949), The Final Test (1953) and Model for Murder (1959).
In 1958 she moved to Israel, where she continued editing films, directed short documentaries and later taught in the film and education departments at Tel Aviv University. She died on 1 March 2013 in Tel Aviv.
