Biography
Helmut Berger (born Helmut Steinberger) was an Austrian actor. He appeared in European films from the late 1960s, often in roles with Visconti, including Martin von Essenbeck in The Damned (1969) and the title role in Ludwig (1973), for which he received a David di Donatello award.
He played Alberto in Vittorio De Sica’s The Garden of the Finzi-Continis (1970). Other credits include Konrad Huebel in Conversation Piece (1974), Frederick Keinszig in The Godfather Part III (1990) and Yves Saint Laurent in 1989 in Saint Laurent (2014). Berger died in 2023.
