Biography
Henri Storck (1907–1999) was a Belgian filmmaker and documentarist. Born in Ostend, he began making films in the late 1920s and became known for his work in documentary and avant-garde cinema.
In 1933 he co-directed Misère au Borinage with Joris Ivens. With André Thirifays and Pierre Vermeylen he founded the Cinémathèque Royale de Belgique in 1938. His other films include Symphonie paysanne (1944) and Permeke (1985). He also served as assistant director on Jean Vigo’s Zéro de conduite (1933).
Storck appeared as an actor in two notable films: as the priest in Zéro de conduite (1933) and as the first client in Chantal Akerman’s Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975).
