Biography
Henrik Galeen, also known as Heinrich Wiesenberg, was an Austrian-born screenwriter, director and actor. He was born on 7 January 1881 in Lemberg, Galicia, Austria-Hungary, and died on 30 July 1949 in Randolph, Vermont, United States.
Galeen began working in film in the 1910s. He co-wrote and directed The Golem (1915) and contributed to the screenplay for The Golem: How He Came into the World (1920). He is best known for writing the screenplay for F. W. Murnau’s Nosferatu (1922). Other credits include the screenplay for Waxworks (1924) and writing and directing The Student of Prague (1926) and Alraune (1928).
He worked in Britain in the late 1920s and early 1930s before returning to Germany. Following the Nazi rise to power he emigrated, eventually settling in the United States.
