Biography

Henry Victor (2 October 1892 – 15 March 1945) was an English character actor. Born in London, he was raised in Germany and began his film career in 1914. He appeared in numerous British silent films, including lead roles in literary adaptations such as The Picture of Dorian Gray (1916).

Victor is best known for his portrayal of the strongman Hercules in Tod Browning's Freaks (1932). After emigrating to the United States in 1939, he worked in Hollywood and frequently played villains or Nazi characters, including Capt. Schultz in Ernst Lubitsch's To Be or Not to Be (1942). He died in Los Angeles of a brain tumour at the age of 52 and is buried at Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Chatsworth, California.
