Biography
Herb Edelman was an American actor of stage, film and television. Born Herbert Edelman on 5 November 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, he studied at Cornell University and Brooklyn College before making his Broadway debut in 1963 in Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park. He reprised the role in the 1967 film version and appeared in the film adaptations of The Odd Couple (1968) and California Suite (1978).
Edelman was twice nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award. He is best known for his recurring role as Stanley Zbornak, the ex-husband of Dorothy Zbornak, in the sitcom The Golden Girls (1985–1992). Other television work included guest and recurring appearances in series such as MacGyver, Murder, She Wrote and St. Elsewhere. His film credits also include The Way We Were (1973) and The Front Page (1974), in which he played Schwartz.
Edelman died of emphysema on 21 July 1996 in Los Angeles.
