Biography

Herdís Stefánsdóttir is an Icelandic composer of film and television scores. She studied music composition at the Iceland Academy of the Arts from 2010 to 2013 and film scoring at New York University, where she earned an MA in 2017. She interned with composer Jóhann Jóhannsson during work on the film Arrival (2016).

Her feature film credits include The Sun Is Also a Star (2019), Knock at the Cabin (2023) and Trap (2024). Television work includes the series Y: The Last Man (2021), The Essex Serpent (2022) and Blackport (2021–2022). She has also scored short films that premiered at festivals including Berlinale, Sundance and Palm Springs. In 2023 she won an Edda Award for best music for Blackport.
