Biography
Hisao Toake was a Japanese actor. Born on 8 September 1908 in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, he attended Hosei University and began his career in theatre, including with the Bungakuza group, before making his film debut in 1951. He left Bungakuza in 1953 to focus on film.
Toake appeared in numerous films, often in supporting roles. He is known for parts in several works by Yasujirō Ozu, including The Flavor of Green Tea Over Rice (1952) as Toichiro Amamiya, Tokyo Story (1953) as Osamu Hattori, Equinox Flower (1958) as Ryozo Soga and Late Autumn (1960) as Tanekichi Kuwata. He also worked with Kenji Mizoguchi on Chikamatsu Monogatari (1954) and Street of Shame (1956), and appeared in Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970) as Saburo Kurusu. He died on 18 December 1985. He was the father of actress Yukiyo Toake.
