Biography
Hlynur Pálmason is an Icelandic film director, screenwriter and visual artist. He was born on 30 September 1984 in Höfn í Hornafirði, Iceland. He studied film at the National Film School of Denmark in Copenhagen, graduating in 2013, and lived in Denmark for around ten years before returning to Iceland.
Pálmason’s feature films include Winter Brothers (2017), which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival and won the Bodil Award and Robert Award for Best Danish Film; A White, White Day (2019), selected for Critics’ Week at Cannes; and Godland (2022), which he also wrote. The latter premiered at Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section and won awards including the Gold Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival. He won the Edda Award for Best Director in 2023.
