Biography
Hou Yong (侯咏) is a Chinese cinematographer and film director. He graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in 1982, in the same class as directors Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige and Tian Zhuangzhuang. His early work as cinematographer was on Fifth Generation films, including several directed by Tian Zhuangzhuang.
He served as director of photography on The Horse Thief (1986) and The Blue Kite (1993). Later collaborations with Zhang Yimou include Not One Less (1999), The Road Home (1999) and Happy Times (2000). Hou has also directed feature films, among them Jasmine Women (2004). He has received multiple Golden Rooster Awards for Best Cinematography.
