Biography
Houseley Stevenson (30 July 1879 – 6 August 1953) was a British-American character actor. Born in London, he began his film career in 1936. He performed in live stage productions in New York under the name Houseley Stevens and was a resident teacher at the Pasadena Playhouse in California.
His film roles include the Gardener (uncredited) in The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947), Dr. Walter Coley in Dark Passage (1947), the Cardinal of Winchester in Joan of Arc (1948) and Madison, Editor (uncredited) in All the King's Men (1949). He also appeared in early television productions, including Adventures of Superman (1952). Stevenson was the father of actors Houseley Stevenson Jr., Edward Stevenson and Onslow Stevens.
