Biography
Howard Dimsdale was an American screenwriter. He received his first screen credits in the early 1940s and worked on feature films including Somewhere in the Night (1946), A Lady Without Passport (1950) and The Train (1964).
In 1950 he was identified as a Communist sympathizer before the House Un-American Activities Committee and was blacklisted for around twenty years. During this period he wrote under the pseudonym Arthur Dales (also credited as Arthur Howard Dales) for series such as Gunsmoke, Mannix and The Fugitive (1963). He resumed credited work in the early 1970s, contributing to Medical Center, Planet of the Apes (1974), Quincy, M.E. and The Six Million Dollar Man (1974), and later taught screenwriting at the American Film Institute.
Dimsdale died on 27 August 1991 in Los Angeles, aged 77.
