Biography
Hugh Herbert (1884/1885–1952) was an American actor and comedian. Born in Binghamton, New York, he attended Cornell University and began his career in vaudeville, where he wrote more than 150 plays and sketches before moving to Hollywood in the late 1920s.
He appeared in numerous Warner Bros. films of the 1930s, including Footlight Parade (1933) as Bowers, Dames (1934) as Ezra Ounce, Gold Diggers of 1935 (1935) as T. Mosley Thorpe and A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935) as Snout. Later credits include Hellzapoppin' (1941) as Quimby, The Black Cat (1941) as Mr. Penny and A Song Is Born (1948) as Professor Twingle.
Herbert received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.
