Biography
Ian Davidson was a British scriptwriter who also acted, directed and produced in television and theatre. Born in Romford, Essex, on 4 August 1940, he died on 8 September 2024. After performing and writing with Michael Palin and Terry Jones at Oxford University, his first BBC writing credit was for That Was the Week That Was in 1963. He appeared in several episodes of Monty Python's Flying Circus (1969–1970) in various small roles.
Davidson maintained a long association with Barry Humphries as a writer and director. He served as script editor on The Two Ronnies and, with Peter Vincent, wrote seven series of the sitcom Sorry! (1981–1988). With Vincent he also wrote episodes of The Brittas Empire (1991) and 'Allo 'Allo! (1984). Other credits include French Fields (with John Chapman) and When the Dog Dies (2013).
