Biography
Ian Fitzgibbon is an Irish film and television director, screenwriter and actor. Born in Dublin in 1962, he graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a degree in French and Spanish and trained as an actor at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
He began his career as an actor, appearing as DC Jones in the 1991 series Prime Suspect and as Father Jessup in Father Ted (1998). As a director, his feature films include Spin the Bottle (2003), A Film with Me in It (2008), Perrier's Bounty (2010), Death of a Superhero (2011) and Dark Lies the Island (2019). His television directing credits include Threesome (2011–2012), Moone Boy (2014), for which he won an IFTA for best director of television drama, People of Earth (2016–2017) and Hullraisers (2022–2023). He has also received a BAFTA nomination.
