Biography

Ian Ogilvy is an English actor, playwright and novelist. Born on 30 September 1943 in Woking, Surrey, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art after education at Eton College.

He is best known for playing Simon Templar in the television series Return of the Saint (1978–79). His film roles include Richard Marshall in Witchfinder General (1968), a part in Waterloo (1970), Chagall in Death Becomes Her (1992) and Mr Stewart Tullen in My Life in Ruins (2009). Television appearances encompass I, Claudius (1976) and multiple episodes of Murder, She Wrote (1984).

Ogilvy has continued working into the 2020s, appearing as Charles Knight in the film Knightfall (2025). He has also written novels and plays.
