Biography
Ian Wilson (23 April 1939 – 20 January 2021) was a British cinematographer. He was born in London and studied graphic design and photography at the Nottingham School of Art and the London International Film School. In the 1960s he worked for the United Nations, filming documentaries in Greece, before entering the film industry in 1966. His first credit as cinematographer was on Private Right (1966).
Wilson collaborated with director David Leland on Wish You Were Here (1987), Checking Out (1989) and The Big Man (1990). Other feature credits include Erik the Viking (1989), Edward II (1991), The Crying Game (1992), Backbeat (1994), Emma (1996), Savior (1998), A Christmas Carol (1999) and Below (2002). He also worked on television, including the series Quatermass (1979).
Wilson received a BAFTA television nomination for The Flame Trees of Thika (1982) and an Emmy nomination for A Christmas Carol (1999).
