Biography
Ibrahim Ferrer was a Cuban singer who appeared as himself in the 1999 documentary film Buena Vista Social Club, directed by Wim Wenders.
Born in San Luis, Cuba, in 1927, he performed son and bolero with orchestras including those led by Pacho Alonso and Beny Moré before retiring from music in 1991. He was invited to participate in the Buena Vista Social Club recording sessions in the mid-1990s and featured prominently in the resulting film and associated releases. Ferrer issued solo albums such as Buena Vista Social Club Presents Ibrahim Ferrer (1999) and performed internationally until his death in Havana in 2005.
