Biography
Ignacy Machowski was a Polish actor of theatre, film, radio and television. Born in Rzeszów on 5 July 1920, he made his stage debut in 1944 and later passed an external actors’ examination. He worked in theatres across Poland, including Rzeszów, Wrocław, Warsaw and Gdańsk, before settling in Warsaw, where he performed at the National Theatre until 1969.
Machowski appeared in more than fifty films between 1954 and 1999. He is known for his roles as Waga in Ashes and Diamonds (1958), a sleeping-car passenger in Night Train (1959), Professor Saltyk in The Silent Star (1960) and the sergeant in The Noose (1958). In total he played over six hundred theatre roles and thousands of parts in radio productions; his final stage appearance was in January 2000. He died in Warsaw on 11 January 2001.
