Biography
Ilse Steppat was a German actress. She began her stage career in 1933 and became a member of the ensemble at the Volksbühne Berlin in 1937. Her film work began after the Second World War, with an early role in the 1947 DEFA production Ehe im Schatten.
In the 1960s Steppat appeared in several Edgar Wallace adaptations, including Die Gruft mit dem Rätselschloss (1964), Der unheimliche Mönch (1965) and Die blaue Hand (1967). Her only English-language role was as Irma Bunt, assistant to Ernst Stavro Blofeld, in the James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969). She was married to the actor and director Max Nosseck.
Steppat died of a heart attack in West Berlin on 21 December 1969, shortly after the Bond film's release.
