Biography
Irene Manning (born Inez Harvuot) was an American actress and singer, also credited early in her career as Hope Manning. Born on 17 July 1912 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she trained as a singer at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.
She made her film debut in 1936 in the western The Old Corral opposite Gene Autry. In the early 1940s she worked under contract at Warner Bros., appearing in The Big Shot (1942) with Humphrey Bogart and The Desert Song (1943) with Dennis Morgan. She is best known for her role as Fay Templeton in the musical Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942), in which she sang several numbers.
During the Second World War she performed with an all-girl USO show in England and recorded with Glenn Miller. Her final screen appearances were in the mid-1940s; she died on 28 May 2004 in San Carlos, California.
