Biography
Iris Yamashita is a Japanese American screenwriter and novelist. Born in Missouri in 1965, she studied engineering at the University of California, Berkeley and San Diego, and virtual reality at the University of Tokyo.
She wrote the screenplay and story for the 2006 film Letters from Iwo Jima, directed by Clint Eastwood. She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay, shared with Paul Haggis.
Her novels include City Under One Roof (2023) and Village in the Dark (2024).
