Biography
Irm Hermann was a German actress. Born Irmgard Hermann on 4 October 1942 in Munich, she worked as a secretary before meeting Rainer Werner Fassbinder in 1966. He cast her, without formal training, in his short film The City Tramp and subsequently in around twenty of his films and theatre productions.
She appeared as Marlene in The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant (1972) and as Krista in Ali: Fear Eats the Soul (1974). Other notable Fassbinder roles include Irmgard Epp in The Merchant of Four Seasons (1972), for which she received a Deutscher Filmpreis. She also worked with directors including Werner Herzog, Percy Adlon and Christoph Schlingensief, and performed extensively on stage and in television. Hermann won a second Deutscher Filmpreis for her role in Adlon’s Five Last Days (1982). She died on 26 May 2020 in Berlin.
