Biography
Ivan Král (12 May 1948 – 2 February 2020) was a Czech-born American composer, filmmaker, guitarist, bassist and singer-songwriter. Born in Prague, he moved to the United States in 1966. He composed the score, with Bruce Brody, for the 1982 film Diner directed by Barry Levinson, and wrote music for underground films including Unmade Beds (1976), The Foreigner (1978) and Subway Riders (1981).
Král was a member of the Patti Smith Group in the 1970s, co-writing songs such as "Dancing Barefoot". He also worked with Iggy Pop and documented the early New York punk scene as a filmmaker, compiling footage into The Blank Generation (1976) with Amos Poe. Later in his career he returned to the Czech Republic, where he produced and recorded solo albums.
