Biography
Izo Hashimoto was a Japanese screenwriter and film director. Born on 21 February 1954 in Masuda, Shimane Prefecture, he made his directorial debut with the independent film Pasokon Wars Isami (1984). He went on to write for the television series Sukeban Deka and several of its film adaptations.
Hashimoto co-wrote the screenplay for Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira (1988). His other screenwriting credits include EM Embalming (1999) and the story for the manga series Shamo, later adapted into a 2007 film. He also directed films such as Evil Dead Trap 2 (1992) and CF Girl (1989).
Hashimoto died on 12 May 2026 in Kumamoto Prefecture, aged 72.
