Biography
Izumi Hara (also credited as Sen Hara or 原泉) was a Japanese actress. She was born on 11 February 1905 in Matsue, Shimane prefecture, and died on 21 May 1989.
She began her career in theatre in the late 1920s, joining left-wing groups including the Tokyo Left Theatre and later the Shin Kyodo Gekidan. She was arrested in 1940 during a crackdown on proletarian theatre. After the Second World War she worked increasingly in film and television, often in supporting roles as elderly women.
Hara appeared in Tampopo (1985) as the Old Woman Pressing Camembert Cheese, The Human Condition II: Road to Eternity (1959) as Sawamura Fuchô, Pastoral: To Die in the Country (1974) as the Phantom of old woman, Profound Desires of the Gods (1968) as Unari Ryu, and A Taxing Woman's Return (1988) as an elderly woman. She was married to the writer Shigeharu Nakano.
