Biography
Jack Albertson, also credited as Harold Albertson, was an American actor. Born in Malden, Massachusetts, he began his career in vaudeville as a dancer and comedian before moving into stage, film and television roles.
He played Grandpa Joe in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971). Other film roles include Manny Rosen in The Poseidon Adventure (1972) and the voice of Amos Slade in The Fox and the Hound (1981). On television he portrayed Ed Brown in the series Chico and the Man (1974–1978).
Albertson won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for The Subject Was Roses (1968), having previously received a Tony Award for the Broadway production of the same work. He also received Emmy Awards for his television performances and was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6253 Hollywood Boulevard.
