Biography
Jack Beresford was a British rower who competed at five successive Olympic Games between 1920 and 1936, winning three gold medals and two silver medals.
He was born Jack Beresford-Wiszniewski on 1 January 1899 in Chiswick and died on 3 December 1977 in Shiplake. The son of Olympic rower Julius Beresford, he rowed for the Thames Rowing Club and Leander Club. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics he served as Great Britain's flagbearer at the opening ceremony.
Beresford appears uncredited as himself carrying the British flag in Olympia Part One: Festival of the Nations (1938) and as a rower for Britain in Olympia Part Two: Festival of Beauty (1938). Archive footage of him features in Sunshine (1999).
