Biography
Jack Cummings was a Canadian-American film producer and director. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, in 1905, he was the nephew of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio head Louis B. Mayer and began his career at the studio in the 1920s as an office boy before advancing to producer.
He produced numerous MGM musicals, including Born to Dance (1936), Kiss Me Kate (1953) and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), the latter earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Later independent productions included Can-Can (1960) and Viva Las Vegas (1964). He was married to Betty Kern, daughter of composer Jerome Kern.
