Biography
Jack J. Gross was an American film and television producer. He began his career in exhibition, working as an usher, projectionist and theatre manager before becoming western division manager for RKO Theatres. In 1939 he joined Universal Pictures as a producer.
At Universal he served as associate producer on The Bank Dick (1940) and as executive producer on a number of films including The Wolf Man (1941), Phantom of the Opera (1943), Son of Dracula (1943), The Body Snatcher (1945) and Isle of the Dead (1945). He moved to RKO in 1943 as executive producer and later produced titles such as The Big Steal (1949). In 1952 he co-founded the independent production company Gross-Krasne, which specialised in television series including Big Town, Mayor of the Town and The O. Henry Playhouse.
Gross died in London on 11 March 1964 while on a business trip.
