Biography
Jack McGowan (12 January 1894 – 28 May 1977) was an American writer and actor. Born in Muskegon, Michigan, he began his career on Broadway after the First World War, making his debut in the 1919 show Take It from Me. He went on to write books for several musicals, including Girl Crazy (1930) with the Gershwins and Guy Bolton, and Hold Everything (1928).
McGowan moved into screenwriting in the early 1930s. His credits include the screenplay for Broadway Melody of 1936 (1935), Born to Dance (1936), Babes in Arms (1939) and Broadway Melody of 1940 (1940). He also contributed to Broadway Melody of 1938 (1937), Little Nellie Kelly (1940), Panama Hattie (1942) and It Happened in Brooklyn (1947).
