Biography
Jackie Burroughs was an English-born Canadian actress. She was born Jacqueline West Burroughs on 2 February 1939 in Southport, Lancashire, England, and moved to Canada with her family as a child. She graduated from the University of Toronto in 1962 and began her career in theatre, appearing at the Stratford Festival and other Canadian stages.
Burroughs appeared in more than 100 films and television productions. She played Vera Smith in The Dead Zone (1983) and was known for roles including Hetty King in the series Road to Avonlea (1990–1996), for which she received three Gemini Awards, and appearances in The Grey Fox (1982), Anne of Green Gables (1985) and Heavy Metal (1981). She also produced, directed, co-wrote and starred in A Winter Tan (1987).
She won three Genie Awards during her career. Burroughs was married to musician Zal Yanovsky from 1967 to 1968; they had one daughter. She died in Toronto on 22 September 2010.
