Biography
Jacqueline Moreau is a French costume designer. Born on 11 October 1929 in Ancenis, Loire-Atlantique, she studied at the École supérieure des beaux-arts in Nantes and later at the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques (IDHEC). She began her career in theatre and opera before moving into film in the mid-1950s.
Moreau is known for her collaborations with director Jacques Demy, designing costumes for The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) and The Young Girls of Rochefort (1967), often working alongside production designer Bernard Evein, to whom she was married. She contributed to other notable films including A Woman Is a Woman (1961), Diary of a Chambermaid (1964) and Stavisky... (1974). Her later work includes several films with Bertrand Tavernier, such as Coup de Torchon (1981) and Captain Conan (1996). She received a César Award for Best Costumes for Beatrice (1987).
