Biography
Jacques Becker (15 September 1906 – 21 February 1960) was a French film director and screenwriter. Born in Paris, he began working in cinema in the late 1920s as an assistant to Jean Renoir on several films, including La Grande Illusion (1937), on which he also appeared uncredited as a British officer.
Becker directed his first feature in 1942 after a period as a prisoner of war. His subsequent films include Antoine et Antoinette (1947), Casque d'Or (1952), Touchez pas au Grisbi (1954), Ali Baba et les quarante voleurs (1954) and Le Trou (1960). He died in Paris aged 53.
