Biography
Jacques d'Amboise was an American ballet dancer, choreographer and actor. Trained at the School of American Ballet, he joined the New York City Ballet in 1949 at the age of 15 and was named a principal dancer in 1953. He created 24 roles for choreographer George Balanchine and performed with the company until 1984.
D'Amboise appeared in several films, including Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) as Brother Ephraim Pontipee and Carousel (1956). He founded the National Dance Institute in 1976 to bring dance education to children. His work with the institute was the subject of the 1983 documentary He Makes Me Feel Like Dancin', which won an Academy Award.
