Biography
Jacques François (16 May 1920 – 25 November 2003) was a French actor. Born Henri Jacques Daniel Paul François in Paris, he appeared in more than 120 films and over 30 stage productions during a career spanning 1942 to 2002.
During the Second World War he served as a captain in the French First Army under General de Lattre. In 1948 he travelled to Hollywood hoping to play the lead in Letter from an Unknown Woman, but the part went to Louis Jourdan; he instead appeared as the playwright Jacques Pierre Barredout in The Barkleys of Broadway (1949) alongside Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers before returning to France. He was also known for regularly dubbing Gregory Peck into French.
François is credited as Pascal in The Day of the Jackal (1973). Among his other screen roles are appearances in The Mad Adventures of Rabbi Jacob (1973), Sorcerer (1977), The Toy (1976) and Santa Claus Is a Stinker (1982).
