Biography

Jamel Debbouze is a French actor, comedian and filmmaker of Moroccan descent. He was born on 18 June 1975 in Paris and grew up in Trappes. He began his career in the 1990s with stand-up comedy and television appearances, including the series H, before moving into film with roles in Zonzon (1998) and Le Ciel, les oiseaux et… ta mère! (1999).

Debbouze is known for his performances in Amélie (2001) as Lucien, Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra (2002) as Numérobis, Angel-A (2005) and Days of Glory (2006). He has also produced and presented the television show Jamel Comedy Club since 2006. He married journalist Mélissa Theuriau in 2008.
