Biography
James Bartle is an Australian cinematographer. He grew up in Melbourne and developed an early interest in light and photography before moving to New Zealand in the 1970s to work in film.
Bartle made his feature debut as director of photography on the 1982 gothic film The Scarecrow. He shot the 1985 New Zealand post-apocalyptic drama The Quiet Earth, for which he received a New Zealand Film and Television Award in 1987. His other New Zealand credits include Heart of the Stag (1984) and Death Warmed Up (1984).
Since the late 1980s Bartle has worked primarily on American television films and series, including several entries in the Hercules franchise (1994–1999) and titles such as My Best Friend Is a Vampire (1987), Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. (1998) and Inherit the Wind (1999).
