Biography
James Bonnet is an American screenwriter and author. Born in Queens, New York, he began his career as an actor, appearing on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning production Sunrise at Campobello (1958) and in several television series and films, including The Blob (1958).
He transitioned to writing in the early 1960s, with his first professional credit on the series It's a Man's World. His television writing credits include episodes of Adam-12 (1974), Kojak (1976), Barney Miller (1979) and Knots Landing (1982). He also co-wrote the screenplay for the feature The Cross and the Switchblade (1970).
Bonnet has served twice on the board of the Writers Guild of America and received a WGA award for his work on Barney Miller. He is the author of the book Stealing Fire from the Gods: The Complete Guide to Story for Writers and Filmmakers and has taught story seminars since the 1990s.
