Biography
James Duff is an American television writer, producer and director. Born Daryl Wayne Rogers on 3 September 1955 in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was adopted and raised in Texas. He studied theatre at Texas Tech University and began his career writing plays, including The War at Home, before moving into television.
Duff created the TNT series The Closer (2005–2012), on which he served as executive producer, writer and occasional director. He subsequently created its spin-off Major Crimes (2012–2018), again contributing as writer, director and producer. His other television credits include episodes of Popular (1999), Felicity (1998), Star Trek: Enterprise (2001), Star Trek: Discovery (2017) and Star Trek: Picard (2020).
Duff is married to actor Phillip P. Keene, who appeared in both The Closer and Major Crimes.
