Biography

James Alan Hetfield is an American musician, singer and guitarist. He is the co-founder, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the heavy metal band Metallica, which he formed in 1981 after responding to a newspaper advertisement placed by drummer Lars Ulrich.

Hetfield has appeared in several films and television programmes, including as Officer Bob Hayward in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019) and in voice roles in series such as The Simpsons and American Dad!. He performed the uncredited vocals on the track "Hell Isn't Good" for the soundtrack of the film South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999).
