Biography
James Hill was a British film and television director, screenwriter and producer. He entered the GPO Film Unit as an assistant in 1937 and served in the RAF Film Unit during the Second World War.
Hill directed episodes of the series The Avengers (1961), The Saint (1962), The Persuaders! (1971) and The New Avengers (1976). His feature films include A Study in Terror (1965) and Born Free (1966). He also directed and produced the children's series Worzel Gummidge (1979) and its sequel series.
He won an Academy Award for the short documentary Giuseppina (1960) and received further awards for the short The Home-Made Car (1963).
