Biography
James Kilgore is an American activist, author and university lecturer. He appeared as himself in the 2016 documentary film 13th, directed by Ava DuVernay, where he is credited as a formerly incarcerated author of the book Understanding Mass Incarceration: A People’s Guide to the New Civil Rights Struggle of Our Time.
He has also appeared as a guest on the television series The O'Reilly Factor in 2005. Kilgore is based in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, where he has worked as a lecturer at the University of Illinois.
