Biography

James Komack (3 August 1924 – 24 December 1997) was an American television producer, director, screenwriter and actor. He began his career as a stand-up comedian and actor before moving into writing and directing for television in the early 1960s.

He directed episodes of series including The Dick Van Dyke Show, Combat!, Get Smart, The Green Hornet and the Star Trek episode 'A Piece of the Action' (1968). Komack created and produced The Courtship of Eddie's Father (1969–1972), Chico and the Man (1974–1978) and Welcome Back, Kotter (1975–1979), and directed the feature film Porky's Revenge (1985). He was credited with discovering John Travolta and Freddie Prinze. He received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his producing work.
