Biography
James Lasdun is an English novelist, poet and screenwriter. Born in London in 1958, he is the son of architect Sir Denys Lasdun. He moved to the United States in 1986 and lives in upstate New York.
Lasdun co-wrote the screenplays for the films Sunday (1997) and Signs & Wonders (2000), both directed by Jonathan Nossiter. The former, based on one of his stories, won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Feature and the Waldo Salt Screenplay Award at Sundance. His short story "The Siege" provided the basis for Bernardo Bertolucci's film Besieged (1998).
He has published several novels, including The Horned Man (2002) and Seven Lies (2006), the latter longlisted for the Man Booker Prize, as well as collections of short stories and poetry. His work has received awards including the inaugural BBC National Short Story Award.
