Biography
James T. Heckert (1926–2008) was an American film and television editor. He began his career in the late 1950s as an assistant film editor on Terror in a Texas Town (1958) and later worked on feature films including Take the Money and Run (1969), Valdez Is Coming (1971) and Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask* (1972).
Heckert edited two episodes of the miniseries Roots (1977), for which he received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Film Editing in a Drama Series. His other television credits include five episodes of Shōgun (1980) and Inside the Third Reich (1982), the latter earning him a further Emmy nomination. He received a total of three Primetime Emmy nominations for film editing.
