Biography
James Toback is an American screenwriter and film director. Born in New York City on 23 November 1944, he graduated from Harvard University in 1966 and later taught English at the City College of New York. He began his screenwriting career with the 1974 film The Gambler.
Toback made his directorial debut with Fingers (1978) and went on to write and direct several further films, including The Pick-up Artist (1987), Two Girls and a Guy (1997) and Black and White (1999). He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for Bugsy (1991).
