Biography

James Walker (born James Stuart Chalton) was an English actor. He was born on 31 March 1940 in Bournemouth and brought up in Leeds. He was educated at Sedbergh School and Trinity College, Oxford, where he read modern languages, graduating in 1961, and trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama from 1963 to 1966. He adopted his mother's maiden name as his stage name.

Walker appeared in films including Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984) as Syme, Empire of the Sun (1987) as Mr Radik and Twelfth Night (1996) as the Priest. His stage work included a season with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon from 1992 to 1994, with a foreign tour of The Winter's Tale, and the role of Albert Einstein in Terry Johnson's Insignificance in Harrogate in 1999. He also had numerous television roles. He was married to Sandra Walker from 1986 until his death in February 2017.
