Biography
Jane Baker was an English television and film writer who worked extensively in collaboration with her husband Pip Baker. Together they contributed scripts to the BBC science-fiction series Doctor Who (1963) in the 1980s, including The Mark of the Rani (1985), Terror of the Vervoids (1986), The Ultimate Foe (1986) and Time and the Rani (1987). They also wrote novelisations of these stories and created the character of the Rani.
The Bakers scripted the episode "A Matter of Balance" (1976) for Space: 1999 (1975). Their other television work included the CBBC series Watt on Earth (1991–1992), which they created and wrote, as well as episodes of series such as Z Cars and The Expert. Earlier credits encompassed films including Night of the Big Heat (1967) and Captain Nemo and the Underwater City (1970).
Jane Baker was born on 30 December 1924 and died on 8 September 2014.
